12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 26th Jun 2009

Residents of the Kingsway West area have been given a financial helping hand during the recession thanks to the work of Future Prospects.

Future Prospects have been working intensively with residents in the Kingsway West area to ensure that they are claiming all the benefits to which they are entitled.

Between January and June this year, over £16,000 extra has been obtained for residents, and in addition 5 people have gained employment and 26 have entered a training course.

The work is part of the Kingsway West Action Project which is aimed at improving outcomes for people living in this area which, according to government statistics, is in the top 10% of most deprived Wards in the country.

Speaking today, Cllr Sue Galloway who is the Chairman of the Kingsway West Action Project said "These outcomes are significant. The intensive work which the team from Future Prospects are doing is making a real difference to those people living in the Westfield area and I would urge anyone who is experiencing financial difficulties to go along to talk to one of the advisers from Future Prospects."

"They can be contacted on Tuesdays at Foxwood Community Centre from 10am - noon and at the Acomb Hotel in Kingsway West from 1pm - 3pm. Alternatively Freephone 0800 834239."
