Liberal Democrats call on restaurants in York to fairly pay staff tips

The Liberal Democrats in York are calling on the Government to introduce mandatory legislation forcing restaurants to clearly state their policy on whether tips go to the restaurant or waiting staff.

Work starts on Chapelfields homes

Work has started on building 9 new family homes in the Chapelfields area of Westfield. These houses will be available for rent, hopefully towards the end of the year.

New Respark scheme will help tackle village parking problems

Households in Hall Park & the west of Main Street in Heslington are being consulted on proposals that will help to bring an end to years of parking problems in their area.

Lib Dems call on Government to tackle excessive drinking

Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, Ann Reid, is calling on the Government to implement tougher legislation to tackle excessive alcohol consumption.

NEW COLD CALLING ZONE IN WESTFIELD

A new Cold Calling Zone is being launched next Monday, 4th August, in Willoughby Way in Westfield, following calls from residents. PCSOs surveyed residents in Willoughby Way and received a very positive response about setting up a Cold Calling Zone.

Calls for improved access road to Wheldrake Village Hall

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Wheldrake, Christian Vassie, is lending his support to calls from the parish council in Wheldrake to have the access road to the village hall widened to allow two way traffic.

Lib Dem plans for tackling fuel poverty

Increasing insulation in homes, rolling out 'social tariffs' to prevent disproportionately high bills from pre-payment meters, and introducing smart meters to reduce energy consumption, are all part of plans announced today by the Liberal Democrats to ensure that energy companies are involved in tackling fuel poverty.

Statement on Norwich Union job losses from Lib Dem leader

This is very disappointing news for York, and the council will be seeking to find out from Norwich Union the reasons behind why so many jobs are being outsourced from the city. Clearly for many hundreds of York residents this will now become an anxious period for them and I appreciate the human cost that news like this has on people. I have spoken with Carole Jones, Human Resources Director at Norwich Union to express my concerns on behalf of the city, and together with the council's Economic Development managers I have arranged to quickly meet with Directors at Norwich Union to understand their new long term plans for York.

Cllr Aspden welcomes future drainage repairs at School Lane in Fulford

Fulford's School Lane is to have its flooding problems rectified as the Council has set aside funding to carry out drainage repair works there. School Lane has been added to the list of priority locations for drainage repair works in this year's budget.

Fulford Councillor delighted that Connaught Court development has been rejected

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Fulford, Keith Aspden, is delighted with news today that the Connaught Court Public Inquiry has been dismissed. He made representations on behalf of residents for the development to be rejected at the Connaught Court RMBI public inquiry last month.
